General Information

The aim of Jeunesses Musicales International, the world’s biggest and most important youth organisation is to create a world without borders where there is no cultural, regional or ideological distinction and where peace and mutual understanding is the common language, thus realising this with the only common language on earth which is music.

The organisation was founded by Marcel Cuvelier and René Nicoly in Brussel on 17 July 1945 right after the Second World War. During the first years the field of study was only classical music. However during the 1960’s the organisation extended the scope and included ethnic, cultural, jazz, rock and pop music in its field of study.

As of 2005, this cultural organisation has 45 permenant members. In addition to permenant members there are 35 affliated organisations and the number of worldwide memberships are rapidly increasing. Jeunesses Musicales International organises 30.000 musical activities at 3.000 cities every year with the aim of training, supporting and bettering the living standards of young musicians. For that purpose, music camps, working groups, festivals, competitons and concerts are organised.
